Too Big To Fail

Since I am a finance major I really am interested in any sort of movie or documentary that has to do with the economic crisis.  Just recently I saw the movie Too Big Too Fail on HBO.  It's a movie about how our government handled the crisis as it was happening and the title really says it all.
The title is designed to tell you the hypocracy of the big banks in the United States.  These banks had vast amount of resources and were very wealthy.  In a very short amount of time some of these banks went bankrupt and it was the beginning of the economic disaster.
I think the name of this movie really gives an idea of how America perceives its economic system.  We really feel that we are infallible and nothing that bad will happen.  It did happen and these big banks did fail.  I think it is important to reexamine are outlook on our economic system and really start to care about how we are run.

Nintendo vs. the gaming world

Nintendo is one of the oldest names in the gaming world.  It has survived all of the other juggernauts taking it over and buying it out.  There is something to be said about the fact Nintendo is still around even with its inferior resources.
Nintendo is very smart and very successful at designing their products for everyone.  They are extremely good about staying ahead of their competition in the innovative department and continue to succeed.  They have allowed themselves to become of the face of video games.  When you think of Nintendo the things that come to mind are Mario and the Wii.  When you think of Xbox or Playstation you tend to stay away from them because they are more for "hardcore gamers" and seem kind of lifeless and dark.  Nintendo is a remarkable company in innovation and continues to do the right things to compete

Motorcycles

Just recently my cousin bought a new Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Just trying saying the name Harley and you get the same reaction from most people.  For the most part I think of words like: big, rough, powerful.  Harley Davidson is a high quality machine but also attracts a certain type of people.  It's design has made its name just so notable for the words I just mentioned above.

The Harley Davidson may be a high quality motorcycle but there are other motorcycles that probably have the same capabilities of a Harley.  The Harley's cool design and marketing have allowed it to be what it is today.  There's something interesting about people's thoughts and ideas of Harley Davidson motorcycles.  It really gives the sense of true America or as most people see it.

My infographic

This infographic was simple and to the point.  When looking at an image such as this I feel people won't be looking at it for long and also won't look at it unless they are drawn to it.  It is important to take these two factors into account.
This infographic can really draw someone in because it is very simplistic and emphasizes the point it is trying to make very quickly.  It uses not only colorful images but also images that are up to date and used on a daily basis in today's society.  By combining a photo with a picture of cheeseburgers along with a laptop and cigarettes it can really get someones attention.  In addition, by using money under these everyday used items people will be drawn to it.
This image also gets its point across quickly so whoever is viewing the image can take in all the information without getting bored and turning away.  There is no need to look at any of the statistics.  You can get a sense of the whole photo just by looking at the images.  It gets its point across quickly and efficiently and will leave a lasting impression on the viewer whether it be good or bad more often than not.

Guitars

I play guitar as a hobby and I was looking at the design of an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar and it got me thinking of the difference.  Yes the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar can sound much different but the designs don't have to be much different.  Both guitars design represent different types of music.

When you look at the acoustic guitar is it very elegant, round and smooth.  This is representing the type of music it produces.  Acoustic guitars can take very hardcore songs and make them soft ballads. It really brings across the meaning of the song and the beauty of the song.

The electric guitar is a much different story.  It is rigid and looks much "cooler" than the acoustic guitar.  This is also representing the type of music it produces.  It tends to be more hardcore and rock and roll.  It is for those of us that want to let go and release our emotions in a vigorous way.

I prefer the acoustic guitar because I feel it simplifies the song and puts the song in perspective for meaning of the song.  It really amplifies the lyrics to the song and brings across a nice refreshing sound.

Rocking Chair

My niece is almost 2 years old and she came over to my house for a visit the other day.  It is always great to watch kids at that age because the simplest things make them happy.  It's a beautiful thing that something so little can make them happy.  As I was watching my niece she went to her little rocking chair that my mom(her grandmother) used to use.  It got me thinking about the design of a rocking chair.

It is not a normal chair by any means.  When you sit in a chair like this it almost reminds you of being a kid again.  Going in that rocking chair is one of my niece's favorite things to do when she comes over.  The rocking chairs design is made so that is very satisfying for someone of my niece's age but also appeals to much older people as well.  My theory is that as you get older no matter how simple the rocking chair seems to be it still brings a sense of youth when you sit in it that cannot be matched by any other sort of chair.  Next time you get a chance to sit in a rocking chair do it and it may remind of a time when things seemed simpler.
